Spotted this 140 kilo york barbell set online for £249.99 probably the cheapest price for any 140 kilo set at the moment.
No nonsense indestructible solid cast iron plates which will last a lifetime, not those pussy plates with holes in so they can be picked up easily and can actually be broken. The set comes with plate sizes 2x20k 2x15k 2x10k 2x5k 4×2.5k 4×1.25k.
The bar is a standard 7ft chrome olympic bar the sort that comes with all olympic weight sets these bars are great to start out with but chrome bars do weaken and after a while of using them with substantial weight they can become a bit whippy.
When this happens its time to use the standard bar for things like rack pulls and t bar rows and invest in either a new standard bar or a decent bar which will last much much longer like the Texas power bar (the worldwide competition standard for powerlifting)
Lastly the set comes with a pair of cast collars these also should last a long time but one may want to replace them with a decent heavy duty pair when they get decently strong.
An Olympic barbell set is a must for anyone who wants to start up a home gym please please do not start off with the cheaper 1 inch diameter sets there is not a decent 1 inch diameter bar on the market anywhere, once you start pushing or pulling half decent weights the bar will become very bendy and while this is ok for deadlifting it sucks for squatting, benching, and other exercises, get a 1 inch set and you will end up having to buy an olympic set sometime down the road buy cheap buy twice why not buy right from the start.
